Gunns Veneers is a wholly owned subsidiary of Gunns Limited, Australia’s largest vertically integrated hardwood timber business. Founded in 1871 by brothers John and Thomas Gunn, Gunns Limited has been a major participant in the development of Tasmania’s world class forest industry.

The veneer division was formed by the acquisition by Gunns Ltd. of the two long established Tasmanian based veneer mills in the early 1990’s and was expanded by the purchase of the veneer slicing assets of Carter Holt Harvey in New Zealand in 1999.

Based around 3 production facilities, Boyer and Somerset in Tasmania and Christchurch in New Zealand, Gunns Veneers is Australasia’s largest producer of sliced veneers and the world’s largest producer of Eucalypt veneers.

The unique density and hardness characteristics of Tasmania’s Eucalypt species has made Gunns Veneers one of the worlds most innovative veneer producers, with processes and equipment specifically developed to maximise the value of saleable production.

Gunns Veneers also have access to high quality pruned Radiata Pine and have built a substantial export market with this species.
